Satya Chaudhry, a woman dying of cancer, requests her childhood acquaintance, Roop, to provide companionship to her husband, Dev. Roop agrees on the condition that she marry Dev. Once married, Dev tells Roop that their relationship will be cordial and platonic. A depressed Roop takes solace in music, which she begins learning from the madam of a brothel, Bahaar Begum. She also begins working in her husband's publishing house. Roop expresses interest in writing about the condition of the locality in which the brothel is located, during which she interacts with a womanising blacksmith named Zafar.

Zafar wants to exact revenge on his parents, Bahaar Begum and Balraj Chaudhry (who abandoned Zafar after Balraj ended his extramarital affair with Bahaar) by seducing Roop, as she is married to Balraj's legitimate son, Dev. Roop misconstrues Zafar's intentions and falls in love with him. She also begins to develop a friendship with Dev, to Satya's pleasure. Satya dies after urging Dev to give Roop a chance and to forgive Balraj for his affair. In another effort to humiliate Balraj, Zafar instigates communal hatred in his friend, Abdul, by demanding for the partition of India on religious lines, which Balraj and Dev do not support.

When Balraj becomes aware of Roop and Zafar's affair, he confronts Bahaar Begum and Zafar. Bahaar, who disagrees with Zafar's approach, warns Roop. Heartbroken, Roop consummates her marriage with Dev, but insists that she would never be able to love him. As Abdul Khan's political stance gains leverage, riots against Hindus and Sikhs in the city take place, during which the Chaudhry's decide to flee to Amritsar with the help of Zafar. He confides in Roop that he eventually fell in love with her, despite his early intention. While boarding a train, Zafar is murdered by Abdul, as Roop and Dev escape. Ten years later, Roop and Dev, still in a loveless marriage, are interviewed about their experience by Aditya, a journalist documenting the partition.

But I didn’t get there in ‘Ae Dil’. Or at least in not more than a couple of places. That’s because of a lack in focus: this he falls in love with her-she loves another-he falls in lust with another-she teaches him how like is better than love is all over the place and stretched at ends, the intervening bits filled with songs (club, shaadi, even a ‘break-up’ ditty) and dialogue (yes, not lines, but dialogues, in the old-fashioned way: why, when your characters inhabit the here and now?). Sure, they play ‘shayars’ and singers, but their delivery makes a lot of those conversations feel forced and cheesy. Rai Bachchan is eye-catching as the older, experienced woman but I wish she was given more time to channel hurt. Poor Fawad Khan, over whom so much controversy broke out, is dishy but doesn’t really have much to do. Lisa Haydon comes on in a walk-on part as a ditsy girl and is a hoot. But the one who lifts this film, or as much as he can, is Ranbir. As the fellow who crumbles and cries and shoves his aching heart on his sleeve even when letting a pretty thing wipe his eyes, he is terrific. There’s a nice bro-moment between Fawad and Ranbir when the film sparks to life. And you wonder if this pair shared more screen space, would the se ‘dils’ have been in a little less ‘mushkil’ ? I’m going to think more on that, and listen to some weepy old songs, and hope that Johar will come up with something newer and sharper the next time around.

Later, it went to the Revising Committe, which brought it down to 13 cuts. However, the Bombay High Court on Monday gave the drug-themed movie a green signal for release after making just one cut and inserting three disclaimers. The bone of contention for the CBFC was that “Udta Punjab” was showcasing Punjab in a poor light, with a highlight on its festering problem of drugs. “Udta Punjab” stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh.

It stars Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles, with Pankaj Kapur and Sanjay Kapoor in supporting roles. The Times of India described Shaandar as "India's first destination wedding film". The Principal photography began in August 2014 in Leeds,and the film is released on 22 October 2015 and coinciding with Dussehra.Firstpost reviewed the movie as "Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor look great, but this film is far from fabulous". Movie critic of Indian Express gave 1.5 star and described the movie as "There is no ‘Shaan’ in this Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt starrer".  NDTV gave 3 stars to the movie and stated "It brings together two different worlds and succeeds in striking a balance between the two. For that, and for much else, Shaandaar deserves hearty ovation." Ibnlive gave 2 stars and described the movie as "wildly inconsistent film that seesaws unevenly between charming and WTF! It’s especially disappointing coming from the very writers and director that gave us last year’s terrific Queen."  Martin D'Souza from Glamsham reviewed the movie as "Complete mishmash, no common sense. To top it all, there's a wedding taking place in the United Kingdom by two families who are broke and are depending on the other to bail them out"

Kavya, who’s engaged to an NRI American doctor, decides to go to Delhi to buy an expensive designer bridal dress for her wedding, after her father refuses to get her the costly dress. She meets Humpty Sharma in Delhi, who falls in love with her. Humpty, with the help of his friends, Shonty and Poplu, chases Kavya, but she’s not interested. She, however, befriends him. Kavya confides in Humpty that her friend in Delhi, Gurpreet, was blackmailed by her ex-boyfriend, who had secretly filmed a sex sequence of the two. Humpty stumbles upon the idea of victimizing

Gurpreet’s ex that would also avenge Gurpreet, and gather the money for the wedding dress for Kavya. They manage to get some money, but Kavya isn’t happy about the way that money is obtained. However, the ensuing adventures make Kavya fall for Humpty, and the night before she’s supposed to return home to Ambala, they sleep together. When Humpty asks her if she loves him, she says she won’t go against the wishes of her father, who has arranged her marriage with an NRI. In order to help Humpty get the money for Kavya’s dress, Humpty’s father and friends chip in. Kavya reluctantly accepts the money and leaves Delhi. Kavya is a changed person when she arrives home. She tells her family that she has decided not to buy that expensive dress. In the meantime, she gifts a car to Humpty using that money, as she had known about Humpty’s father’s dream to buy a car. Overwhelmed, Humpty and his friends go to Ambala, where Humpty tries to win over Kavya. Kavya’s father believes in arranged marriages, as his elder daughter, Swati, married against his wishes and later her wedding turned out to be a disaster, ending in divorce. Kavya’s father instantly disapproves of Humpty, and gets him and his friends beaten up. Upon repeated persuasion, he asks Humpty to give him one reason for why his daughter shouldn’t marry the NRI, Angad. Kavya's father tells Humpty that he has five days to come up with a reason. Humpty and his friends try their best to find flaws in Angad, but fail every time. The deadline ends the same day Kavya is to wed Angad. That day, Kavya runs away from home and calls Humpty to join her on a train to leave the town. Kavya’s father and family reach the train station, where Kavya’s father is extremely angry and hits Humpty. Humpty gives an emotional explanation saying that he may not be as rich, successful, or good-looking as Angad, but he loves Kavya from the core of his heart. He leaves Ambala after that incident. When Kavya is dressed up as a bride, her father asks her if she still fancies that expensive wedding dress. She replies that she’s not fit for expensive classy dresses, but is suitable for local dresses and she wishes she could exchange the classy groom with the local groom. Her father gets the idea that her relationship would be fuller with Humpty, the local boy, and not Angad, the American doctor. He approaches Humpty and gives his consent to marry his daughter.
