MS Dhoni The Untold Story cast: Sushant Singh Rajput, Anupam Kher, Rajesh Sharma, Bhumika Chawla, Kumud Mishra, Disha Patani, Kiara Advani, Harry Tangri MS Dhoni The Untold Story director: Neeraj Pandey To create a true, full-blooded biopic, filmmakers need a free-hand: MS Dhoni The Untold Story, which claims to give us Mahendra Singh Dhoni Uncut, is much more generous with details from his childhood and his days of struggle than from his blazing tenure as star wicketkeeper-batsman-captain of the Indian cricket team. The result, with the exception of a few interesting bits and pieces, is bland and predictable. The over-long film cherry-picks the details it wants to serve us, skirting all grey areas and controversies: there are no smart nose-digs, only ingratiating bouquets; only hurrahs (the critique is so muted that we can barely hear it), and loud background music which is used to drum up emotion and drama.

It begins with promise. Young Mahi is more interested in football, badminton and tennis, and tries to blow off his first coach (Rajesh Sharma) who spots his potential. The entire ‘bachpan’-adolescence section, featuring the father (Anupam Kher) who thinks a job will take his son much further than sports, the mother who believes in her son, the sister (Bhumika Chawla) who is a solid support to him, his bunch of loyal friends who just know he can do it, has been crafted with heart and feels authentic. We see Mahi (Sushant Singh Rajput) trying and failing and trying again, despite all the roadblocks, to keep his eye on his goal: to be part of the Indian team and play for his country, and we root for him.

Till then, bully for Neeraj Pandey and the film, even if it is already feeling stretched and repetitive. What works for the film in the first half is the lifelike re-creation of life in a small town (Ranchi), a family getting by on slender means and yet being able to find it in themselves to get behind a bright-eyed lad who dreams big, and is willing to work for it. In the way it shows Mahi’s often herculean attempts to become visible to the powers that be (he can smash the ball all across the ground effortlessly, and wicket-keep beautifully too), the film becomes almost copybook in telling us that strokes may come easy but getting invited into privileged sporting enclaves is exceedingly tough. But, and this is the message that comes through loud and clear, that it can be done. You can be a small town boy, and if you have talent and a little bit of luck, you can be unstoppable. Up till here, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s story, the mostly untold part for most of us, holds us. It tells us that it is right for us to aspire, and that anyone can do it. Then the curse of the second half strikes, and it goes into an irreversible slide. Two romances arrive in swift succession (Disha Patani, Kiara Advani, both sparkly, both reduced to sidebars). There are songs. There is a stab at the intrigue that governs selection processes at various cricketing bodies, including the mighty BCCI, but it is laughably feeble. The entire focus is on Dhoni who is shown as the sole match-winner from the Indian side. His teammates, which include Indian cricketing greats (Saurav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and others), are seen in flashes, either from the back or in profile. There is no dressing room banter with his team-mates. No scenes, in fact, with other players, except for a couple of stray ones with Yuvraj Singh (Harry Tangri).

The story opens in Karaikudi, where Gouravam (Santhanam) is a well-known traditional cook making a living undertaking orders for marriage functions. He is forced into taking an order for a local goon’s wedding and is not happy about it. Saravanan (Vishal) and his four friends, who come to work for him as junior cooks, offer to help him but land him in even greater trouble and they are forced to flee from Karaikudi. The story shifts to Trichy, where Saravanan and his friends have grand plans of opening a restaurant with the help of Gouravam and his money. Here, just like in Malaikottai, it is love at first sight for Saravanan when he sees Aishwarya (Aishwarya Arjun). Things go wrong and as their love deepens we are introduced to two rival gangs, Kasi and Manaa along with a ‘Madurai Anachi’ who are constantly at each other’s throat. In a conflict Manaa forces Aishwarya to marry him and in the process of saving his love Saravanan reveals his past. Saravanan is a jail return who had killed 3 people in Madurai including Anachi's only son to avenge the murder of an orphan kid whom Saravanan considers as his little sister. The rest of the story is how Saravanan protects his love and kill the dark forces.

Ganesh(Ajith Kumar) and his sister Thamizh(Lakshmi Menon) come to settle down in Kolkata where she has enrolled for a course to hone her artistic skills. Ganesh is an extremely peace loving soft hearted person who makes even rowdies like Kolkata Kaali(Rajendran) like him in one instant. Kolkata is also the operating base of a high profile international criminal syndicate run by three brothers Rahul (Rahul Dev), Abhinay(Kabir Duhan Singh) and Aniket(Aniket Chauhan). Ganesh advised by his new house owner(Mayilswamy) starts working under Laxmidas(Soori) who owns a Taxi company. Cops in Kolkata ask Taxi and Auto drivers for help in nabbing criminal members of Rahul's gang and prepare a suspect list. Ganesh identifies one of the suspects and informs the police about the where abouts of the criminals which leads to a large haul of illegal weapons, drugs, money and also arrest of many of lower level gang members belonging to Rahul. Frustrated Aniket finds Ganesh and brings him to his Yacht to be killed, but is instead killed by Ganesh who becomes extremely violent during the altercation. Simultaneously Ganesh gets acquainted with Swetha(Shruti Hassan) and Swetha's brother Arjun(Ashwin) gets acquainted with Thamizh in two separate incidents and they are attracted to each other and Arjun gets his parents to meet and officially ask for Thamizhs hand in marriage. Abhinay who gets to know about his younger brothers death comes to Kolkata and tries to find the murderer using a highly sophisticated technical team who track the GPS of the mobile which were in the area. As the final trace emerges it is found that Ganesh has infiltrated the building where Abhinay had set up camp. Ganesh after a violent fight with the gangsters kills everyone in the building and receives Rahuls call and informs him about the murder while all this has been witnessed by Swetha. Swetha rushes to stop the engagement of his brother but is stopped by Ganesh who reveals his history of being Vedalam, a notorious history sheeter in Chennai who was shown affection by Thamizh and his parents even though he vacated them out of their own house for money. Thamizh gets entangled in a flesh trade kidnapping scandal under Abhinay and is rescued by Ganesh but also incurs injury impacting her memory. Her parents are also murdered during this incident. Ganesh brings her to Kolkata to take revenge and also to enroll her into the best arts college in the country which is present there. Rahul who coincidentally gets help from Thamizh to sketch out the suspect kidnaps her and thus ensues a final take down fight with Ganesh. Ganesh is able to hide his true violent self from Thamizh and also kill Rahul thus exacting his revenge and keeping his sister safe.

I had hopes from Banjo because of a couple of things: director Ravi Jadhav has done a bunch of good Marathi films (Natarang is terrific; Balak Palak places an important conversation at the heart of a ‘children’s’ film; Balgandharva has great music), and lead actor Riteish Deshmukh is light on his feet, even in the broadest comedies

he almost always seems to be seen in.But Banjo has practically no redeeming features. It is about a NRI musician’s (Nargis Fakhri) search for an original sound which leads her to the banjo artist Tarraat (Riteish Deshmukh) and his ragtag band, and what happens next. Because underdogs have to win, we know how things will pan out. But the painful progression to that climactic point is filled with uniformly terrible acting, clichéd situations and shouty, obvious dialogue. Fakhri’s actorly limitations are obvious even in the song-and-dance sequences. And her choice of attire for the slum tourism the film ties to pass offas truism is very short shorts-and-singlets: every single male character she passes or sits alongside, has got his eyeballs hanging out. If that’s not cringe-making, I don’t know what is. The gawking males with wandering eyes includes Deshmukh’s leading man, who calls her ‘madam’, and promptly and predictably falls for her. Also read | Banjo, Parched, Days of Tafree release at box office today, who will emerge winner? The only time the film stops trying your patience somewhat is when it bursts into song, and even there, it has only one which is foot-tapping.Really, you expect better from Deshmukh, whose artfully dusty, tangled tresses and toned, worked-out frame don’t match up to the required grunginess of his character description. And from Jadhav, who has done so much better in his previous outings.

Raaka (Adithya), and kills him. The scene then shifts to a village, where Pugazh is attending the wedding of a Tahsildar's daughter. He meets Janavi (Nayantara), a friend of the bride, and instantly falls in love with her. After persistent wooing, he succeeds in winning her heart. One night, after a rock concert they accept a dinner invitation from Rajveer (Angad Bedi), who is a relative of a powerful politician, and two others to a resort in Surajkund, Faridabad district, Haryana. Rajeev is known to Minal through a common friend. Rajveer and his friends get drunk and try to molest Minal Arora (Taapsee Pannu) and her two roommates. Andrea is touched inappropriately by Dumpy (Raashul Tandon). Minal picks up a bottle and smashes it on Rajveer's eye, leaving him bleeding despite she saying NO to him. Rajveer and his friends try to vacate the girls from their houses and threaten them over the phone. Minal is foced to file a FIR against Rajveer and his friends. Upon realisation Rajveer lodges a wrong FIR against the girls, labelling them as prostitutes, using his powerful connections. Minal is charged for 'Attempt to murder' and for soliciting, where she could face imprisonment for more than 10 years, if convicted. Deepak Sehgall (Amitabh Bachchan) is a lawyer suffering from bipolar disorder who experiences frequent mood swings and has an ailing wife. He represents the girls in the court. The film revolves around how Deepak fights the girls' case against these influential boys.

Meanwhile, there are some moments which are meant to be scary—whispers from a drain, blood flowing from objects, painted faces with empty eyeballs. And we are treated to scenes which look as if they have been ‘inspired’ from The Exorcist, Paranormal Activity, and many of Bhatts’ own previous outings with creatures who scale walls and make animal noises. There’s an evil spirit around, declares a ‘psychometrist’. A soothsayer goes into hysterics. A priest invokes the name of the lord. But, the one thing that saves the good guys and vanquishes the bad ‘un is, drumroll, an ancient ‘mantra’, and the power of a good wife. Narrator Viraj Anand is the younger son of Satyamurthy, a billionaire businessman who dies in an accident. Although Anand has ₹3 billion worth of property and stock which is worthless, he owes an equal amount. Paida Sambasiva Rao,

one of Satyamurthy's creditors, suggests that Anand file for bankruptcy to protect his wealth but Anand wants to preserve his father’s image. Anand's older brother becomes mentally unstable and, at Sambasiva Rao's advice, the father of Anand's fiancée Pallavi cancels their upcoming wedding. Anand and his family move to a simpler home in Hyderabad, and he becomes the family's sole breadwinner. He joins his friend's event-management company as a wedding planner, and his assistant Parandhamaiah goes with him. Anand is assigned to plan a destination wedding at Ooty, which turns out to be Pallavi's. There he meets Sameera (also known as Subbalakshmi), a diabetic, with whom he eventually falls in love. While planning Pallavi's marriage Anand faces many difficulties, including an attempt by Pallavi's uncle and his son to stop the marriage because of her father's mistreatment. Pallavi's father and uncle reconcile, and Anand is paid more than the agreed amount in gratitude. Sameera turns out to be Sambasiva Rao's daughter and objects to their marriage, saying that Satyamurthy cheated him when he sold an 8,000-square-foot (740 m2) property illegally acquired by landlord Devaraj Naidu. The current market value of the land is half billion rupees. Sambasiva Rao tells Anand that he will agree to the marriage if Anand can deliver the land documents from Devaraj in four weeks. Anand and Parandhamaiah set out for house number 6 in Reddiarpatti to exchange the original documents for fake ones. Instead they end up in house number 9 and reveal their intentions to Devaraj, who traps them without harm; Devaraj cannot hurt anyone in front of his wife, Lakshmi, from whom he has hidden his true self for twenty years. Sambasiva Rao's family is kidnapped and brought to Devaraj's house; the next day Anand saves Devaraj from the brother (Kumarasamy Naidu, Devaraj's henchman since five years) of his rival, Veerasamy Naidu. Impressed, Devaraj agrees to return the land documents if Anand becomes engaged to his sister Valli. However, Valli wants to marry Lakshmi's brother and threatens to kill Anand if he does not break their engagement. Valli teases Sameera, acting as if she is in love with Anand (which makes Devaraj happy). Devaraj's brother-in-law Koda Rambabu goes to Reddiarpatti, mistakenly believing that Parandhamaiah is Sameera's lover and Valli's potential lover. He wants to stop the marriage, and at Anand's suggestion Rambabu and Sambasiva Rao ask Veerasamy to have his henchmen kill the bridegroom; this would stop the marriage on the last day of the four-week deadline imposed by Sambasiva Rao. Although Anand plans to help Valli elope with her cousin, Veerasamy's henchmen mistake him for Anand and try to kill him. Devaraj and Anand save her cousin; when Devaraj tries to kill Rambabu, Anand says that he was the mastermind behind the plan and wants the real land documents. Nine minutes are left before Sambasiva Rao's deadline; as Anand and Devaraj duel, Anand's mother enters. Devaraj and his family are shocked, remembering that Satyamurthy was fatally injured when he saved Valli from an accident planned by Veerasamy. Before he died, Satyamurthy told Valli that he made a mistake selling illegally-acquired land to his friend and wants to rectify it with the landlord. Devaraj and Sambasiva Rao are full of remorse, and Devaraj returns the land documents to Anand in accordance with Satyamurthy's last wish. Anand gives the papers to Sambasiva Rao, who apologises for his behaviour. Veerasamy dies in an accident, and Koda Rambabu is spared. Anand and Sambasiva Rao are on their way home with their families when Pallavi's father meets them with news that the market value of Anand's stock is now worth hundred million rupees. The film was initially titled as Sambhavam and Pagal Kollai but later changed as Thagaraaru.[8] Pooja was initially approached to play the lead female role but she was busy with other commitments and thus recommended Poorna for the role.[9] The first day of shoot was held at location where the opening scene of producer's previous film Mankatha was shot, since the producer considered it as "sentimental".[10] The film was entirely shot at Madurai. The last schedule was commenced at 3 June, in Red Hills, Chennai.Thagaraaru (English: Fight) is a 2013 Indian Tamil mystery drama film written and directed by newcomer Ganesh Vinaayac and produced by Cloud Nine Movies.[1][2] The film stars Arulnithi and Poorna in the lead roles. The soundtrack was composed by Dharan, while Praveen Sathya composed the score.[3] Dillraj was the cinematographer, and T. S. Suresh edited the film. The film released on 6 December 2013 and received positive reviews from critics.The film did average business at the box office.
